Maine Coon cats originate from New England, USA. They thrived living in the wild and
soon became domesticated on the farms. They are the largest domestic cat
in the world. The males can grow to 25lbs and the females to 15lbs+. Maine Coons have a ruff around the neck, snow tufts and a long plumed
tail which is the same length as the body. The coat of the Maine Coon is semi-longhair it is shorter over the shoulders and gets longer towards
the back of the body.
Maine Coons are a very affectionate and "laid back" breed and love to play. They are not particulary lap cats but they do like to sit next to
you and have some body contact usually by just touching you with their paw. They answer you back with a 'chirruping' sound which is unique to
the breed. They are very intelligent and like to retrieve
toys, they also tend to pinch things. Maine Coons take 3 to 4 years to mature. The only problem with owning a Maine Coon cat
is........ one is never enough!
